Lighthouse Lakes Trail Trip

Saturday morning we took the Ferry to the Lighthouse Lakes for a day paddle.
Snacks are always an enjoyable part of our trips, but rarely are we joined by such a distinguished (or some may say disgusting) guest as the snake that slithered through the grass.
As we paddled into a strong south wind we passed a flock of Brown Pelicans.
We lunched on the beach with a flower looking on and Charlie checked out a beached Crab Trap.
In the afternoon we reached a lighthouse, which must be why this area is called Lighthouse Lakes Trail.
Sunday we paddled Corpus Christi Bay, behind Mustang State Park, where we spotted many marvelous waterfowl, such as the Stilted Sandpiper, Snowy Egret, Roseate Spoonbill and the Reddish Egret.
We took a short snack break and Mike tried out the tippy boat.
On the way back we met a fisherman eager to show off his catch.
A few brave souls in our group, left the protected waters of the bay and headed out into the Gulf to challenge themselves in the surf.
