Canoeing CoursesClick here to learn more about the USCA

We have been teaching canoeing since 1991 and are currently offering classes certified by the United States Canoe Association (USCA). Contact us to schedule canoeing programs for your group or for private instruction.

If you would like to plan a canoeing outing for your group we can provide the equipment and suggest some wonderfully scenic rivers. Of course, we’ll come along on the trip to guide you and provide instruction.

Basic Canoeing
4 - 6 hours

This course has been developed by the USCA to encourage the growth of paddling as a recognized competitive sport and as a recreational lifetime activity. You will learn to paddle a tandem canoe on quiet water and understand how to transport canoes and how to prepare for a safe canoeing trip. Children who are 12 years old and have the physical ability to paddle a canoe with a partner are welcome to join this class. This is an excellent class for youth groups.

Private Instruction
2 hours

Perhaps you learn more effectively one-on-one with an expert certified instructor than in a group class. No problem. We conduct private lessons all the time. They can be arranged mid-week or on the weekends. Tell us which body of water is convenient for you and we will meet you there with boats and gear. Or ask us to suggest a location. We can plan the lesson for whatever skills you choose. Do you want to learn the kayak roll or to practice rescues? Do you want to learn how to paddle a racing canoe?

Essentials of River Canoeing
7 hours

There is nothing like canoeing down a narrow stream or peaceful river. Pack a picnic or load overnight gear for a blissful trip. But what about encountering occasional rapids and negotiating fallen trees. This American Canoe Association river canoeing course teaches you the skills necessary to stay safe, stay dry and stay in control of your boat. You will learn to read water conditions and anticipate river features. Know how to choose your river route to maximize fun and adventure. You don't just have to drift down stream anymore.
